Delhi: Bollywood diva Rekha took oath as a Rajya Sabha member on
Tuesday. She also met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh before taking oath. On
the other hand, Sachin Tendulkar will take oath on May 16.
57-year-old Rekha was one of the leading ladies of Bollywood in the '70s
and '80s and had won several awards including the National Award for
President Pratibha Patil approved the names of actor Rekha and cricket
icon Tendulkar for nominated seats in the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of
the Parliament. Both Rekha and Tendulkar accepted their nominations. Watch:
Tendulkar and Rekha were nominated to the Upper House on April 27.
Jaya Bachchan, another Bollywood actor of yesteryears, is currently in the
Upper House as a member of Samjawadi Party.
Film personalities who were nominated to the Upper House in the past
include Vyjayantimala, Nargis Dutt, Lata Mangeshkar and Sivaji Ganesan.
