Raman Singh's Panama connection: Cong questions PM Modi's 'Na khaunga, na khaane dunga' statement

New Delhi [India], July 30 (ANI): Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Na khaunga, na khaane dunga' statement on anti-corruption, the Congress on Sunday backed its Vice-President Rahul Gandhi's statement of no action initiated against Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh despite his involvement in the Panama Papers.

Congress leader P.L. Punia said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi always says 'Na khaunga, na khaane dunga,' but he cannot see Raman Singh's involvement in corruption case.

Both Congress leaders Shakeel Ahmed and Punia drew parallel between India and Pakistan, saying that Islamabad went ahead and took action against its Prime Minister Nawaz, Sharif but here action could not be taken even against a state Chief Minister.

"On the one hand, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was asked to step down in the same matter, but here even a resignation is not been asked because the Prime Minister can see others but not his own corrupted people," Punia told ANI.

"What Rahul Gandhi has said is correct. Pakistan's Prime Minister has been removed, but here no action is taken against the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister. This is ironical, because Pakistan's judiciary is considered to be that strong but still it took such a big step and here nothing has happened," Ahmed told ANI.

Yesterday, Rahul Gandhi hit out at the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and said Raman Singh and his family's name is also involved in the Panama Papers, but no action has been taken against them.

"Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had to resign as his name was in Panama papers, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and his family's name was also in it, but no action has been taken against them," said Gandhi while addressing a rally here.

Rahul said the prime minister makes tall claims to curb corruption in the country, but cannot see corruption of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister. (ANI)
