Police must take immediate action to bring murderers, conspirators to light: Manmohan Vaidya on RSS worker killing in Kerala

New Delhi: On Saturday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government would take steps to bring before law those responsible for the killing of an RSS worker at Payyannur in Kerala. Vijayan termed yesterday's incident as "very unfortunate". He wanted everyone to see the case as an isolated one and ensure that it would not cause hurdle in the peace efforts in the district. "Concerned persons have to be cautious to see that the situation is not turning worse. The government will make all efforts to bring the guilty before law," he said reported PTI. "Police is working hard to ensure that accused are brought to justice," said Vijayan reported ANI. Meanwhile, the BJP demanded that Kannur be declared as a "disturbed area". Party wanted Armed Forces (Special Powers) Acts (AFSPA) to be imposed, citing "frequent" attacks on its party workers. RSS worker Choorakad Biju was hacked to death allegedly by the CPI(M) activists at Payyanur town. the district has witnessed a series of clashes between the ruling CPI(M) and the RSS for the past one year. Interestingly, RSS worker was an accused in a case relating to the killing of CPI(M) activist C V Dhanraj in 2016. Cops on Saturday registered a case against seven identifiable persons in connection with the incident. Meanwhile, RSS' Manmohan Vaidya condemned the brutal murder of RSS worker in Kerala. Police must take immediate action to bring murderers, conspirators to light, he said, reported ANI. Here's a list of recent 5 murders Interestingly, Kerala's Kannur is also notorious for clashes between CPM and RSS. The sickle and hammer, the Marxists' proletarian symbols, have, in fact, literal meanings only in Kannur. The political rivalry between the CPM-RSS here dates back to 1970s. Here are the latest five incidents when allegedly politically motivated murders have taken place:
    • In October 2016, a worker (52) of ruling CPM was hacked to death by some unidentified men and sources say the victim was attacked in his shop by four-five men in a busy market area. Cops suspect it to be a political murder, said sources.

    • In September 2016, in a suspected retaliatory attack, a BJP worker (26) was hacked to death at Thillankeri in Kannur district, hardly two hours after a CPM man was injured in a bomb attack in the same area.

    • In July, 2016,  political rivalry led to the murder of CPM worker C V Danarajan. A BJP leader C K Ramachandran was killed in retaliation.

    • In June 2016, there was a crude bomb explosion that killed two CPI-M party activists. The party denied it was behind the manufacture of crude bombs. K. Shyju, 39, and Sudheesh, 28, were killed in the explosion at Chettakkandy near Kannur and it was suspected that the explosion took place while “making bombs”.

    • In February, 2016 an RSS activist who was ferrying schoolchildren was dragged out of his autorickshaw and hacked to death.
During the last 45 years, nearly 180 people were murdered because of political violence in Kannur district of Kerala. Kannur is unique in the sense that villages in the district are literally owned by political parties.
In a village dominated by say CPI-M members, the land and houses are only sold to people within the party fold so that the village is controlled by the Marxists.
