PDP leader Vikramaditya Singh resigns from party, says his initiatives were dubbed as 'anti-party'

Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India] October 22 (ANI): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker and grandson of Jammu and Kashmir's Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh, Vikramaditya Singh on Sunday resigned from the party asserting that his initiatives were being dubbed as anti-party.

Vikramaditya said initiatives taken by him for Jammu were not accepted by the state government.

Speaking to ANI, Singh said, "I was brought into the politics of Jammu and Kashmir for a specific reason. As a face of Jammu, as a person whose family has been committed to the state for 150 years and whose ancestors created the state. It was thought that someone from this family will play a positive role in bridging the gap between the three different regions of the state and help in fulfil the aspirations of the people of Jammu. I did not see any political development which should have happened. Lot of initiatives that I took up viz-a viz Jammu were not accepted by the government".

Vikramaditya further averred that he highlighted dozens of issues in the Legislative Council but his views were dubbed as anti-party.

"Then I thought if I am not able to work within the party and get appreciated so then it is better to step out. There was an upsurge of sentiments in the entire Jammu region. But why does it happen that when it comes to respecting the sentiments of Jammu people these leaders back out. There are many issues on which I am upset with the government," Singh asserted.

Vikramaditya, son of senior Congress leader Karan Singh, had joined the party in August 2015.

A major controversy had erupted in September over a demand to declare Maharaja Hari Singh's birthday, 55 years after his death, a state holiday.

Singh has been spearheading the campaign. (ANI)
