Opposition opposes demonetisation in Manipur

Imphal (Manipur) [India] Nov 8 (ANI): The Congress and other opposition political parties on Wednesday observed Black Day against demonetisation.

On November 8, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to demonetise 500- and 1000-rupee banknotes with an aim to weaken the black money or shadow economy in the country.

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and opposition political parties in the state observed Black in protest against the demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes.

The MPCC earlier staged a sit in protest by displaying banners and playcards with slogans against the demonetisation. Opposition Political parties like the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India- Marxist [CPI-M] also staged protest against demonetisation.

Later a protest rally was also staged from Congress Bhavan till Sumang Leela Shanglen where a meeting was held. Speakers on the occasion highlighted the impact of demonetisation on common people of the country.

While the Congress and other opposition parties are observing November 8 as 'black day' across the country to oppose demonetisation, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is celebrating it as anti-black money day. (ANI)
