Odisha Govt. insensitive towards farmers: Dharmendra Pradhan

Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) [India], Nov.06 (ANI): Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday labeled the Odisha government as "murderer" while blaming it for the suicides of farmers in the state.

As per the reports, more than eight farmers have committed suicides in eight districts of Odisha over the last 10 days.

Blaming the state government's lackadaisical attitude for the farmers' suicide, Pradhan said: "An untoward incident took place in Odisha. At least seven farmers have committed suicide in Odisha over the last 10 days. The farmers committed suicide because of the Odisha government's negligence."

He further said that the Odisha government is not only corrupt, insensitive government but also a murderer.

Pradhan further said that farmers committed suicide as the schemes launched by the Central Government were not made available to them.

"The Centre has launched the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes for farmers aiming to transfer subsidies directly to their bank accounts and eliminate middlemen. But the state government did not made the DBT gateway for the farmers. That is why the farmers became depressed and took their lives," he added. (ANI)
