Guru was the convict in 2001 Indian Parliament attack. The organizers of the event were ex-members of the Democratic Students Union (DSU) and it was held despite the University administration withdrawing permission for the event. The permission was withdrawn due to protests by members of the student union ABVP. The event saw clashes between different student groups. Anti-India slogans were also shouted during the protest.
