Now, Supreme Court litigants can access data, retrieve information online

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the integrated case management information system of the Supreme Court, which will help litigants access data and retrieve information online. It will be the first step towards a digital and paperless Supreme Court. The court fee and process fee will be calculated online, which will help the litigant about the cost involved. Speaking at the SC's event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Our understanding of technology should not be limited to hardware only. E-governance is easy, effective and economical. It is also environment friendly. Paperless offices will benefit the environment". "Impact and influence of artificial intelligence is going to increase. Space technology is also becoming important," he said. Modi said the need of the hour is to focus on application of science and technology as it has the power to transform our economic potential as well. "Embracing technology can't happen if only a few people are keen on it. The scale must be larger," he said. "We are happy that High Court and Supreme Court judges are cutting short their vacations. In my last meeting with the CJI, he had expressed concern on reducing the number of pending cases," PM said. Speaking on the occasion, CJI Jagdish Singh Khehar said he proposes to integrate the system with all the 24 high courts and the subordinate courts. It will help usher transparency, reduce manipulation and help the litigant know about the progress of the case on a real time basis, he said. Every central and state government department will know if they have been made party to the case and help them prepare accordingly. Justice Khehar said it will help the bar and not increase its workload. (With inputs from PTI)
