Note ban is 'biggest' man-made disaster, worse than 2004 Tsunami: Chidambaram

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 28 (ANI): Former Union Home Minister and senior Congress leader, P. Chidambaram, on Saturday termed demonetisation as the "biggest" man-made disaster, "worse than the Tsunami of 2004".

"Demonetisation is the biggest man-made disaster that has hit India, worse than the Tsunami that hit in 2004 and Mumbai flood," Chidambaram said, while addressing youth Congress here.

Chidambaram said demonetisation was the biggest scam and added that someday, someone will conduct a probe into this matter and reality will be revealed.

He further said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government lacked honesty to accept their mistake of taking the decision to demonetise high-value currency notes.

The former finance minister even slammed the government over the roll out of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) and said the government even sidelined the advice of the Chief economic advisor to fix the rate at 15.5 % and went ahead with its decision.

"In future there will be a new government and they will bring the changes in these decisions (Demonetisation and GST). GST rate will be single rate that will be 18 per cent," he said. (ANI)
