No ambulance on call, sons carry woman's body on bike for 12 km

BHOPAL: In another shocking replay of the Odisha incident in which a man, Daana Majh, carried the body of his wife on his shoulders for 16km when the administration failed to provide him an ambulance, two residents of Ulat village in Madhya Pradesh were on Tuesday forced to carry their mother's body on motorcycle for 12 km. The family of 70-year-old Parvata Bai on Tuesday called up the Ambulance services of the Seoni district in Madhya Pradhesh to take the elderly to hospital after her condition deteriorated following a long illness. Her sons made several calls but the ambulance did not turn up and during the delay Bai's condition worsened. When there was no option left, the two decided to carry their ailing mother on motorcycle to hospital to get her treated. But she couldn't survive the journey and died midway. After her sons realised that she was no more, they again called up the ambulance services. This time the ambulance did arrive but its driver refused to carry the dead to home. They request the driver several times but to no avail. Left with no options, both then drove their mother's body for 12 km on motorcycle to their village. A similar incident had taken place in Nabarangpur district of Odisha in May when unable to arrange a hearse, a body had to be carried on the pillion seat of a motorcycle by the family members of the deceased.
