National Lawyers' campaign seeks NJAC review

New Delhi [India], Jan 16 (ANI): The National Lawyers Campaign for Judicial Transparency and Reforms on Tuesday mentioned that they are seeking review of the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) judgment.

When asked the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra about it, he said, "We will see."

Maverick lawyer from Mumbai, Mathews J Nedumpara, in his writ petition had stated, "The Constitution (Ninety-ninth Amendment) Act, 2014 and the National Judicial Appointment Commission Act, 2014 are unconstitutional is void, being one vitiated by errors apparent on the face of the record, rendered without jurisdiction and in violation of the principles of justice by recourse to the procedure of review."

National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) was a proposed body, which would have been responsible for the appointment and transfer of judges to the higher judiciary in India. The Commission was established by amending the Constitution through the ninety-ninth constitution amendment vide the Constitution (Ninety-Ninth Amendment) Act, 2014 passed by the Lok Sabha on August 13, 2014 and by the Rajya Sabha on August 14, 2014.

The NJAC Act and the Constitutional Amendment Act came into force from April 13, 2015. (ANI)
