Muslim man awaits UP CM’s permission to serve meat at his daughter’s wedding

Uttar Pradesh: Tensions regarding sale and purchase of meat have risen in the state of Uttar Pradesh especially after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered shut down of illegal slaughter houses. A similar story can be seen at Nazar Mohammad’s residence, who stays in Dadri region of Greater Noida. Mohammad has his daughter’s wedding on Tuesday where he wishes to serve buffalo meat to the baratis who are set to come from Meerut. But, considering the tensions in the state with regards to meat sale, he sought a permission from the higher-ups, which is long pending in the police station. Mohammad fears arrest if he serves meat without the consent of the authorities. On the other hand, he is afraid his reputation would get tainted if he doesn’t serve ‘good’ food to his guests. “I’m very upset because if I don’t serve good mutton, it would stain my image” he said. “A cop threatened me and dared to not serve buffalo meat on my daughter’s wedding saying he would put me behind the bars if I do” he added. UP Government’s order: The state government headed by CM Yogi Adityanath in its recent order made it very clear that only sale and purchase of cow flesh is banned in the state. On the other hand one can buy and eat any other form of animal flesh. Akhlaq’s case: Even after CM’s order people of UP are afraid to take any risks considering the murder of Akhlaq, who was a resident of Dadri. Akhlaq was murdered in 2015 by a group of men from his own village who suspected that he had stored cow flesh in his refrigerator, which later was proven false. UP Government bans illegal slaughter houses: Days after taking charge of the state, Chief Minsiter Yogi Adityanath ordered shut down of illegal slaughter houses in the state and said that the legal ones can freely run.  The move led to shut down of a large number of meat shops in UP, where people running the business had to resort to alternate jobs.
