MoS P. P. Chaudhary backs Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) ordinance

New Delhi [India], Oct. 23 (ANI): Minister of State (MoS) Law and Justice P. P. Chaudhary on Monday backed the Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Ordinance.

The ordinance seeks to shield serving and former judges, magistrates and public servants from being investigated for on duty actions without prior sanction.

"This law by the Rajasthan Government is perfect and balanced. This considers both media and individual rights. This law is much needed at this point of time," he told ANI.

The Rajasthan Government had earlier in the day tabled the Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) ordinance in the State Assembly. Congress leaders created a ruckus in the assembly against the tabling of the ordinance.

The assembly has been adjourned till Tuesday.

Meanwhile, senior lawyer in Rajasthan High Court A K Jain has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Ordinance in the high court.

The Rajasthan Government, in the current legislative session, passed an ordinance that protects both serving and former judges, magistrates and public servants in the state from being investigated for on-duty action without prior sanction.

The ordinance also sought to bar the media from reporting on accusations against the judges and bureaucrats till the sanction to proceed with the probe is obtained.

The ordinance is an amendment to the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.(ANI)
