Miffed veteran BJP leader Shyamdev Roy Chaudhari from Varanasi announces retirement from politics
New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh BJP leader and a seven-time-MLA from Varanasi (South), Shyamdev Roy Chaudhari, on Wednesday, declared his retirement from politics.
He made this statement on the day when state is witnessing last phase of polling (7th phase).
Here are 5 developments related with Shyamdev Roy Chaudhari:
- He was miffed at denial of the ticket, which also led to resentment among a section of city voters.
- Chaudhari asked the party why an old hand was sidelined to pave the way for a new comer.
- While entering the Kashi Vishwanath premises on Saturday, Modi was greeted by Chaudhari but the latter's disappointment reflected when he chose to remain outside the premises. In a charm offensive, the Prime Minister then held him by the arm and took him inside the temple.
- The party leadership has worked overtime to placate Chaudhari with BJP president Amit Shah reaching out to him, but according to Chaudhari he has no idea why he was ignored. However, sources said the age factor went against the 77-year-old leader.
- In his place, ticket is given to Nilkanth Tiwari.
