Metro train crosses Delhi metro's highest point at Dhaula Kuan

New Delhi [India], Aug. 02 (ANI): A Metro train passed through Delhi Metro's highest point at Dhaula Kuan today for the first time as part of the preparations for commencement of trial runs between Mayapuri and South Campus on the upcoming Majlis Park - Shiv Vihar (ink) corridor.

The Metro train crossed Dhaula Kuan at a height of 23.6 metres (as high as a seven storey building) to reach South Campus from Mayapuri covering a distance of 6.8 kilometres.

The full-fledged trials on this section will commence in a few days.

During this journey, various functional aspects of the new rolling stock (trains) were tested prior to the beginning of signalling trials.

Trial runs on a 6.5 km stretch between Shakurpur and Mayapuri are already in progress on the pink line since last month.

The height of the viaduct at Dhaula Kuan is 23.6 metres and it is the highest point of Delhi Metro so far surpassing Karkardooma where the metro passes at a height of 19 metres above the ground. The construction of this section was a major engineering challenge since the viaduct had to pass above the airport line viaduct as well as flyovers at the Dhaula Kuan intersection.

The launching operation above the Airport line was done only during the non-operating hours (i.e. between 12.30 a.m. till 4 a.m.) to avoid any disruption to the traffic on Airport line.

Launching work started only after getting all clearances from Operation & Maintenances (O&M) department of the Airport line. A diversion road also was constructed so that there was no inconvenience to the road users during erection.

The Majlis Park - Shiv Vihar corridor, also known as the pink line is a 59 kilometre line corridor mostly covering the national capital's arterial Ring Road.

After commissioning, the line will emerge as one of Delhi Metro's lifelines with 10 interchanging stations. (ANI)
