Mayawati quitting Rajya Sabha exposes her 'theatrical' nature: BJP

New Delhi/ Bengaluru [India], July 19 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday branded Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati's resignation as member of the Rajya Sabha and stormy exit from Parliament, as a calculated which only exposed her "theatrical nature".

Speaking to ANI, BJP leader S. Prakash said Mayawati is holding a "drama" over a "trivial issue".

"She has lost all base in Uttar Pradesh. In the next term she doesn't even have adequate numbers to get re-elected to Rajya Sabha. Over a trivial issue, she has threatened to resign, knowing completely well that it would not be accepted. Her excuse for the resignation is not convincing, it only exposes her theatrical nature," he added.

Another BJP leader Nalin Kohli said if the resignation is as per the procedure and if she (Mayawati) desires to resign, then that's her personal choice.

"But if the procedure is not correct then obviously that would be a separate situation and that's for the parliamentary procedure to really define... There are three kind of political thinking at the moment- one, there is a politics of accusation and allegation, there is a politics of excuses and there is a politics of performance and development. As far as the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi government is concerned, we are focusing only on the politics of development and the politics of performance," he told ANI here.

"Others who do not take the politics of performance, look for the politics of excuses or accusation. Now which category Mayawati will fall into that is for her to really explain because it were the politics of performance she would not have lost the election many years ago and her party would not have been performing so badly specially in UP where the people have seen what kind of government she had given," he added.

Mayawati yesterday resigned as Rajya Sabha MP.

"I was not allowed to speak on problems being faced by the Dalits, backward class, weaker sections including farmers and labourers in Uttar Pradesh. Since I was not allowed by the ruling party to raise these issues so, I have decided to give resignation from Rajya Sabha," she told media.

The BSP supremo first threatened to resign from the Upper House after she was not allowed to speak on Dalits and other weaker sections being targeted in Uttar Pradesh.

She raised the Saharanpur violence and criticised the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh for handling the matter poorly.

"Since the BJP has come to power, there have been atrocities on Dalits and minorities starting from Rohith Vemula in Hyderabad, then the Gau Rakshaks," the BSP chief asserted.(ANI)
