Delhi:
Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata
Banerjee, whose party is an UPA ally but has made common cause with
non-Congress chief ministers on some issues, will not attend the
oath-taking ceremonies of Parkash Singh Badal and Akhilesh Yadav as chief
ministers of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien tweeted on Sunday, "Just spoke to
Mamatadi. Was keen to make trip to Chandigarh/Lucknow but now she'll be in
Bengal on opening day of Assembly for Governor address."

"As keen as Mamatadi is to attend both swearing in ceremonies of the new
CMs, she might not make it because of comittments in bengal," he also
tweeted.

However, Brien had tweeted on Saturday: "Just learnt that Mamatadi will be
going to both Lucknow & Chandigarh for the CM swearing in ceremonies."

While Badal had telephoned Mamata inviting her to attend his swearing in
ceremony on March 14, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had spoken to her on
phone a couple of days ago extending the invite to attend the oath-taking
in Lucknow on March 15.

If Mamata made it to Badal's oath-taking, she may have ended up sharing
the dais with leaders and chief ministers of BJP-led National Democratic
Alliance (NDA), of which Akali Dal is a part.

Badal also invited UPA allies Sharad Pawar (NCP) and Farooq and Omar
Abdullah (National Conference), as well as Tamil Nadu chief minister
Jayalalithaa.
