Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan, police officers at wedding of Dawood Ibrahim's relative

New Delhi:  An internal inquiry has been ordered by Nashik police commissioner Ravinder Singal against nine Nashik police officers for reportedly attending the wedding of a relative of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The wedding was held on May 19 in Nashik was also attended by the state water resources and irrigation minister Girish Mahajan and Nashik's deputy mayor. According to news agency PTI, some personnel attached to Bhadrakali police station in Old City area reportedly attended the marriage ceremony held at a posh mall in Mahatma Nagar area on. The invitation for the marriage was reportedly given to the police personnel by some Muslim clerics. The bridegroom is the son of a former local corporator. "The invitation for the marriage was sent to some police officials of Bhadrakali police station and also to some corporators, political personalities, MLAs etc.," he told PTI. According to PTI sources in local police, an ACP-rank officer also attended the function. Singhal said the statements of the police personnel who attended the marriage are being recorded. "It will take two days to complete the internal inquiry against the officials as some of them are on leave," he said, adding that the police force was also busy in providing bandobast in Malegaon in the district where municipal corporation elections were held today. Dawood is wanted in India for the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai in which 257 people were killed and nearly a thousand injured. He is also accused of masterminding other terror attacks and of money laundering and extortion. His syndicate dabbles in everything ranging from cricket betting, arms supply, narcotics trade, film-financing, real estate and gutkha manufacturing. The 1993 blasts were the first in India in which RDX was used. The CBI has proved in court that the RDX came from Pakistan. The United States has designated Dawood as a global terrorist having links with Al Qaeda and financing activities of Laskhar-e-Tayiba and other terrorist organisations.
