Lt. Gov Baijal reviews actions on Women Safety by Delhi Police

New Delhi [India], Sept 21 (ANI): Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal chaired a Law and Order meeting on Thursday at Raj Niwas and reviewed the actions taken on the decisions reached on the safety of women and people from North-East region, Community Policing and the use of technology by the Delhi Police.

Baijal was apprised about the various initiatives taken by the Delhi Police to ensure the safety of women in Delhi.

According to Delhi Police, In the year 2017, a total of 19,742 joint integrated checkings have been held.

"Collection of data of Dark Spots from districts and sending it promptly to Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, wide publicity through news papers, cinema halls and at places frequented by public given through various Apps and other citizen centric initiatives of Delhi Police including self-defence courses for girls/women were reviewed. So far, 607 training programmes have been conducted for 1,19,943 women/girl," Delhi Police said.

The Governor advised Delhi Police to explore collaboration with IIIT-Delhi and other institutions to devise a technological solution for keeping a tab on the proper functioning of street lights, especially in the vulnerable areas.

He also stressed upon the need for introducing self defence training programmes in school curriculum and directed the Chief Secretary, Delhi to coordinate with the authorities concerned for its implementation.

While discussing about the various measures adopted by the Delhi Police in the field of Community Policing like Police YUVA, Mitra, Pehchan etc., it was desired to have an objective third-party evaluation of all such measures for further modifications and improvement.

The Governor stated that specially designed/task oriented post-paid feedback forms may be used for this purpose so as to have an objective assessment which will form basis of further modification as per the needs of the society.

The Governor emphasized that the initiatives taken by Delhi Police, particularly of its apps and helpline numbers, must be made more interactive and disseminated intensively for awareness and benefit of the public.

He was informed about the progress made on use of technologies like NERS 112, CTO, e-saathi etc.

The Governor instructed that use of technology may be maximized to ensure the smooth functioning of CCTVs as well as analysis of data related to crime.

Lastly, the Governor advised that local bodies and traffic police should work together to resolve bottlenecks and traffic congestion at the border areas and remove encroachment from roads/footpaths inside the city. (ANI)
