Law-breaker Sant Rampal's controversial preachings

New Delhi:  Self-styled godman Sant Rampal has continued to remain defiant about his arrest and has the support of hundreds of men, women, children & his private commandos who have successfully provided him security by blocking entry of the security forces into the Satlok Ashram over the days.

The controversial godman is facing charges of conspiracy to murder, inciting mobs and contempt of court. He has failed to appear before the high court so far.

The high court had last week directed Haryana Police and state authorities to arrest and bring him (Rampal) before the court. The high court bench said Rampal should be "smoked out even if he is hiding in a bunker".

The 63-year-old man had declared himself an incarnation of Kabir after witnessing a huge popularity in Haryana.

Despite facing a strong resistance from Arya Samaj in Haryana in 2005-06, the ‘Sant’ has still been able to attract a enormous number of devotees.

From being an engineer Rampal to courting the title of ‘Sant’, Rampal has come a long way.

Rampal’s website says he was born on 8 September 1951 in Village Dhanana, Tehsil Gohana, District Sonipat (Haryana) in a family of farmers. His father’s name is Bhakt Nandram and mother’s name is Bhaktmati Indradevi. After obtaining a diploma in Engineering, he was appointed as a J.E. in the irrigation department of Haryana Government.

In 1999, Rampal had set up the Satlok Ashram in Rohtak's Karontha village.  Rampal, who has thousands of followers in Haryana & in neighbouring parts of Punjab, has set some rules for people who can become his disciple.

According to Rampal, “religious scriptures like — speech of Kabir Sahib, speech of Shri Nanak Ji, speech of Sant Garibdas Ji Maharaj, speech of Sant Dharmdas Ji Sahib, Vedas, Gita, Puran, Quran, Holy Bible etc are the constitution of the path of Bhakti &  whichever saint tells sadhna according to the scriptures and shows the path to the Bhakt community, he is a Purna Saint; otherwise he is a big enemy of the Bhakt society who is making others do sadhna opposite to the scriptures.”

Rampal asks people to refrain from going to temples or indulging in idol worship. He says “unnecessary charity is prohibited.”

His website adds, "Do not have to give anything in form of charity anywhere and to anyone. Neither money, nor unstitched cloth etc, nothing. If someone comes asking for any charity then feed him and give something to drink like tea, milk, lassi, water etc, but do not have to give anything else. Who knows that beggar might misuse that money."

The things he has banned are untouchability, adultery and 'vulgar' singing and dancing.

"Do not criticize your Guru even by mistake, nor hear it. To hear means if someone says false things about your Guru Ji, then you do not have to fight, rather should think that he is speaking without thinking i.e. is telling a lie,” as published on his website.

Rampal’s website has mentioned ‘false cases' against him & also has taken up the alleged victimization hatched by the judiciary and police in social media.
