Kashmir: Girls learn baking fondant, icing cakes

Kashmir (Jammu and Kashmir) [India] August 17 (ANI): The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Srinagar started a two-week course of 'Fondant and Icing' bakery classes for Kashmiri girls on May 29 here.

The course will run till June 12.

The girls were proudly rolling out their beautiful fondant cakes to score the maximum and earn certification from the IHM Srinagar.

Around 24 students enrolled their names for the two-week course.

During the course, the students are trained in baking fondant, icing, breads, cakes, cookies, donuts, tarts and other bakery items.

"Now we can bake cakes of any designs depending upon the orders of the party," says Zehra, a student.

Mehreen Kapra, a teacher in the course, said that some of the bakers had to visit Delhi or other cities to learn such an art, but now they can learn it in Srinagar.

"It is for the first time that such a course has been conducted in entire Jammu and Kashmir. The girls had to go to Delhi for such course. In the first batch we got good response from the girls," says Mehreen Kapra.

This is the first time any such course is organised in Jammu and Kashmir.(ANI)
