Kamala Mills Fire: Hotelier arrested for sheltering accused

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] Jan 10 (ANI) Juhu-based hotelier Vishal Kariya has been arrested for sheltering three owners of 1 Above pub in connection with the Kamala Mills fire that claimed the lives of 14 people.

The Mumbai Police have recovered a high-end car of accused Abhijeet Mankar from the Juhu residence of Kariya (42) and picked him up for questioning.

During the interrogation, the hotelier revealed that he sheltered the trio -- Kripesh Sanghvi, Jigar Sanghvi and Mankar-- at his residence.

A case under Section 216 of Indian Penal Code has been lodged against Kariya. He will be produced before the Bhoiwada Court on Wednesday.

Family and friends of Kariya gathered outside the N M Joshi Marg police station.

The 1 Above owners are still at large. Police have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for whereabouts about the accused.

Besides the 14 deaths, 12 others suffered critical injuries in the massive fire that broke out at the Kamla Mills compound in the Lower Parel locality of Mumbai in the wee hours of December 29. (ANI)
