Viral Sach: India inflicted humiliating defeat on China in 1967 to avenge 1962 war embarrassment?

NEW DELHI: Amidst a standoff between Indian and Chinese armies in the Sikkim section, a message doing rounds on internet claimed that India had avenged in 1967 the embarrassing defeat it suffered in the 1962 China war. "Citizens of India only know about 1962 war in which China humiliated us but they don't know that we also defeated them in 1967 to avenge the loss," a message claimed. "The war was fought on Cho La and Nathu La fronts when China tried to conquer Sikkim. Indian forces inflicted the damage upon Chinese troops and made them flee the battle," it said. According to the message, on the Indian side 88 soldiers were martyred in the war whereas 400 chinese soldiers were killed by our forces. Fact Check: The Nathu La and Cho La military clashes took place in September-October 1967. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) launched an attack on Indian posts at Nathu La in September 1967 and in October another military duel took place at Cho La. The Indian forces drove back the attacking Chinese forces. It was a series of clashes but not a war. However, the end of the conflict resulted in the defeat of Chinese military.
