Hyderabad: Man lands in Qatar jail for carrying agent's parcel

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], Aug. 13 (ANI): A man from Hyderabad has been jailed at Doha in Qatar for allegedly carrying drugs.

Shaik Sikander, left for Doha in search of a job on June 20. While leaving for Qatar, his agent, Razaaq, handed him two packets that needed to be delivered.

The moment Sikander landed at the airport, officials detained him on the charges of carrying drugs.

Speaking to ANI, Sikander's mom, Sajida Begum, said, "He (Sikander) was very interested to work in a foreign country. When he left to Qatar two months ago; the agent handed him two packets that needed to be delivered to someone in Qatar. And they would come and collect it from him."

"My son believed him and carried it along; when he landed there the airport authorities caught him and found that he was carrying cannabis. He was instantly detained and currently in Qatar Jail. I would request External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to intervene in the matter and rescue him," she added.

Sikander is allowed to talk to his family over the phone once in a week.

The family has requested the Union Minister for External Affairs and Telangana Minister for NRI affairs to intervene to secure his release. (ANI)
