Delhi: Group of men beat 3 for transporting ‘buffaloes’; Cops claim they belong to Maneka Gandhi’s NGO PFA

New Delhi: Three men who were allegedly carrying buffaloes in the heart of Delhi in Kalkaji, were beaten up by a group of men, who police claims were not cow vigilantes, but belonged to PFA, an NGO which works for the welfare of the animals, and their rights. As per the police, the buffaloes were being transported in a truck with Haryana number and were being taken to Ghazipur Mandi for slaughter, that is when the bunch of people from PFA “took their job too seriously” started roughing up the buffalo transporters. As per a senior cop, the injuries sustained by the three were “simple” in nature and they were moved to AIIMS for medical examination. The surprising part in the whole incident was that, no case has been registered against the men who beat up the truck driver and two others. In fact, a case has been registered against the ones who have been beaten up and are under police’s jurisdiction. “A legal action has been initiated against the three in regards to animal cruelty” said the police. He added that “since no complaint has been made so far by the beaten men, therefore a probe can be launched only after a complaint is made”. PFA run by Maneka Gandhi? Union minister Maneka Gandhi who is one of the founding members of NGO People for Animals (PFA) and is also its chairperson, has blatantly denied any association with the incident. As per a statement issued by Gandhi’s office, the NGO doesn’t have any unit in Delhi. Also, if anyone associated with NGO did something like this, then it was in that individual’s personal capacity.
