Fresh clashes in Srinagar: Students throw stones at Army, face tear gas

Srinagar: Days after video of man tied in front of Army jeep in Srinagar on the charges of pelting-stones at Army went viral, fresh clashes emerged between a group of uniformed students and security forces, where students could be clearly seen pelting stones at the Army with their faces covered. The clashes between the students and security forces escalated to an extent that cops had to resort to tear gas shells. In the shocking video, a group of students from S.P College blocked the blocked the Maulana Azad road in Srinagar to protest against the army's action on students in Pulwama, where more than two dozen students got injured. The students of the S.P. College also resorted to stone throwing on security forces and the armed police in which the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Kothibagh police station got injured. The local market around the Residency Road area was immediately shut after the situation got out of hands. ABP News image Cops tie Kashmiri man to jeep An FIR was lodged on Sunday against unnamed army personnel for allegedly using a civilian as a human shield against stone-pelters during the election in Beerwah area of Lok Sabha constituency. The case was registered two days after a video went viral showing a man being tied to an army jeep in the front and being used as shield on April 9 against those throwing stones at military men and vehicles. The video has caused outrage forcing the police to investigate and thereafter file an FIR. A police officer quoted by newagency PTI said the FIR has been registered under sections 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 367 (kidnapping or abducting in order to subject person to grievous hurt) of the Ranbir Penal Code.
