Find out why Paytm vanished from iOS App store

New Delhi: Users of e-payments company PayTm had been facing difficulties in transacting through the app for quite a few days now which the company said was due to some "technical" error. "We are facing some technical issues. We will have it resolved shortly so please try again after some time," an automated message popped up on screen at time of transactions made on December 20. Users of PayTm took to social media to complain about the about service outage. A screen shot posted on social media networks displayed, "We are fixing something. Be right back." A Twitteratti posted that he has been getting the message since last two hours. Another twitter account holder in name of Vivek Anand said "#DemonetizationDisaster guess what #Paytm offline right now wish I had some cash now Could happen to anyone anywhere anytime any application". This issue was restricted to some of the iOS App users only because of which the App was removed temporarily from the App Store to stop adding incremental new users to their existing base.  Here is what happened:
  1. Paytm found a bug in their iOS App as a result of which certain app users were not able to pay thereby hanging their app.
  2. Consequently, the system logged them out to prevent them from further accessing their account.
  3. An app update to Apple was sent immediately requesting them to approve the same as soon as possible.
  4. Once live, the users were requested to update their iOS app.
  5. The updated App was available from Thursday morning which is now working fine for iOS users.
When contacted, a Paytm spokesperson attributed the outage to challenges the company is facing with sudden jump in number of users and associated traffic. The spokesperson said that Paytm has added 20 million new users in last 40 days taking the total number of registered users with us to 170 million. (With inputs from PTI)
