Fight over train seat, not over beef rumour, led to killing of Junaid Khan: GRP

Faridabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Sunday said the killing of 17-year-old Junaid Khan was over fight for seat in the train and not over beef consumption. Naresh, the prime accused in the killing of Muslim youth Junaid onboard a Mathura-bound train, was arrested on Saturday from Dhule district of Maharashtra. "There is no reference to beef in the complaint of the victims and also questioning of the accused," Kuldeep, SP, Haryana GRP, addressing a press conference on the arrest, in Faridabad said "The prime accused is security guard in some company. He has accepted the crime," he added. "It is an open investigation case and can’t set a time limit to it. A final picture will emerge only after completion of the interrogation," he added. Kuldeep said the GRP will demand 3 days police custody in court to interrogate him further. A statement released by the GRP had said that a team was sent to Dhule following on a tip-off information that the accused person was hiding there. The main accused was arrested and would be produced before a court on Sunday, the GRP said. Earlier, the police had arrested several persons including a 50-year-old Delhi government employee in connection with the murder, but the prime accused had been at large. The incident had triggered a nation-wide outrage. 17-year-old Junaid was stabbed to death when he, along with his brothers, was returning home to Khandawli village in Ballabgarh after shopping for Eid in Delhi. Junaid was killed while his brothers—Hashim and Sakir—were injured by a mob which also allegedly hurled slurs against them onboard the Delhi-Mathura passenger train between Ballabgarh and Mathura stations. The youth’s body was dumped close to Asaoti village in Faridabad district.
