New Delhi: Intolerance debate should take place in India as intolerance is a "cause of concern", believes the first woman Speaker of Lok Sabha Meira Kumar.

“It is a cause of concern and such a debate should take place in India because India is known for religious tolerance and when people are raising questions about intolerance, it is very sad”, said Smt Kumar, ex-speaker of Lok Sabha, in an exclusive conversation with ABP Live.

On being asked that whether religious intolerance has increased during NDA government, she said, "yes".

“Yes, religious intolerance has increased. The state should not be seen as party towards any religion, state should be equidistant from all religions…all religions should be respected by the government", she said at an event, Diplomatic Nite 2015, recently organised by the Extraordinary And Plenipotentiary Diplomatist magazine.
