EVM 'unhackable' says SEC of Delhi, admits 18 machines replaced due to battery or button related issues

New Delhi: The State Election Commissioner of Delhi SK Srivastava on Sunday, after the MCD polling got over, said that EVMs were "unhackable". "EVM has proved that it is unhackable, it is a robust machine and I don't think there should be any question related to EVM", Srivastava said. However, he accepted that 18 EVMs were replaced and the same was done because of battery or button related issues. Around 54% voting recorded in MCD elections 2017, said State Election Commissioner SK Srivastava. Interestingly, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted-"Reports from all over Delhi of EVM malfunction, people wid voter slips not allowed to vote. What is SEC doing?" In a separate but related incident, Delhi BJP moved to SEC alleging that Dy CM Manish Sisodia appealed to the people for votes during a TV interview on Sunday while polling was underway. For the first time in the MCD elections, None Of The Above (NOTA) option has been made available. Over 56,000 Delhi police and paramilitary personnel were deployed at the polling booths, while an additional 20,000 home guards were deployed to ensure law and order in the city on the election day. The elections to two municipal wards— Sarai Peepal Kalan (North MCD) and Maujpur (East MCD)— postponed following the deaths of candidates, incidentally both from the Samajwadi Party. The exit poll on Delhi MCD elections on ABP News on Sunday revealed that BJP is in the heart of national capital. BJP is winning in East Delhi (47); with AAP (7) second, Congress (8) third and others (0) fourth. In North Delhi too, BJP is winning (88); with AAP (8) second, the Congress (7) third and others (1) fourth. In South Delhi, like other two wings of Delhi MCD, BJP winning (83) with AAP (10) second, Congress (10) third and others (1). The results of the MCD elections will be out on April 26.
