Emotional Modi asserts demonetisation just the beginning: Parliamentary party meeting round-up

New Delhi: The BJP Parliamentary Party meeting today passed a unanimous resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “great crusade” against black money.
  • Making an emotional address to the Bhartiya Janata Party leaders today at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that the demonetization of high currency notes is just a beginning of his government’s deep and continuous struggle against black money.
  • The PM said that the decision is in the interest of the poor and middle class.
  • He added that his government is dedicated to eradicate the evils of black money and corruption which have affected people in the last 70 years.
  • According to the PM, the demonetisation move is a step for the security and the welfare of the poor people, said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar.
Here's a round-up of what Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said following the government's decision to demonetise Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes.
  • For the next few weeks, the Centre will focus on the agricultural sector said Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley.
  • Hailing the demonetization move by the Centre, Jaitley on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi breaking all the ‘stereotypes’ has created a new ‘normal’ with this historic endeavor.
  • Jaitley while addressing the BJP parliamentary meet said that the banning of high-currency notes was a significant step taken by the NDA regime, adding it took a lot of courage to do so.
  • Adding that the political rivals are creating unnecessary ruckus for belittling this initiative, Jaitley said that the Centre is ready for a debate.
  • Jaitley also lambasted the opposition for accusing the Centre of leaking the news of banning high denomination notes to a select few.
  • The Finance Minister also used this opportunity to reach out to the farming community. ‘For the next few weeks, we are planning to focus on the agricultural sector. Rabi season is also coming, we need to assist all these needs,’ he said.
Meanwhile, the Parliament witnessed uproarious scene today as a united opposition stuck to its demand to discuss the demonetization issue under rules entailing voting. On Tuesday, the Lok Sabha was again adjourned till 12 pm after protests over demonetisation.
