Delhi: Railway minister Dinesh Trivedi on Thursday sent his
resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. A rollback in fare hike is
expected after March 16. Though Mamata Banerjee asked for complete
rollback in fare hike, the government has agreed to partial rollback as of
Manmohan Singh is likely to accept Trivedi's resignation. Mukul Roy is
likely to replace him as the railway minister and may be sworn-in on
Sunday or Monday.

Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh to remove her party nominee Dinesh Trivedi from the post of railway
The action of the West Bengal chief minister came late in the night after
Trivedi's stout defence of his proposal for across-the-board increase in
rail fares to net Rs 4,000 crore in the budget.
