New Delhi: Domestic passenger flight operations from Chennai airport, which were suspended, will
resume from Sunday morning.
The runway, however, will be available only for day-time operations and a decision regarding full-fledged operations will be taken by the aviation regulator DGCA, Airports Authority of India said on Saturday night.
"Day-time all weather operations for domestic commercial flights from Chennai airport will commence from 6 am tomorrow," the AAI said in a statement.
The AAI had decided to shut the airport till December 6 in the wake of battering rains that left the facility unusable.
"DGCA will review the situation for night operations tomorrow," the statement said.
The AAI had on Friday declared the runway fit for operating technical ferry and relief flights after an
inspection by its staff.
Four ferry flights that were parked at Chennai Airport departed for Delhi, Mumbai and Port Blair on Saturday while one Cargo flight Singcargo B747 departed for Singapore via Bangalore. In addition, four more flights took off from Chennai up to 1700 hours today, AAI had said in a statement earlier in the day.
