Court ordered inquiry against 'The Wire' under Section 202 of CrPC: Jay Shah's lawyer

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], Oct. 9 (ANI): An Ahmedabad court has ordered an inquiry under Section 202 (to inquire into the case to decide whether or not there is sufficient ground for proceeding) of the CrPC against news website 'The Wire' on the defamation suit filed by Jay Shah, son of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah, informed Jay's lawyer S.V. Raju on Monday.

The defamation suit has been filed over a news report of 'The Wire' that questioned huge growth Jay Shah's firm's turnover in a year.

Raju told ANI that the hearing in the case will be held on October 11.

"We prayed the court for inquiry into the matter. The court agreed and has ordered an inquiry under Section 202 of the CrPC," Raju said.

A report, written by Rohini Singh in the news website 'The Wire', details the growth of Jay Shah's company, Temple Enterprise Private Ltd, from revenues of Rs. 50,000 in 2014-'15 to Rs. 80.5 crore in 2015-'16.

The report also reveals a number of loans received by companies connected to the BJP president's son, based on documents filed with the Registrar of Companies.

Prior to the suit filed by Jay Shah, Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday rejected allegations made against Jay Shah or any of his party leaders.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Goyal informed that a criminal defamation suit of Rs. 100 crore will be filed against the news The Wire and author of article.

Goyal said that the article is written to damage the reputation of the party president Amit Shah. (ANI)
