CM Palaniswamy promises Tamil Nadu farmers to speak to PM Modi

New Delhi: Showing a ray of hope to the protesting Tamil Nadu farmers at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday urged the farmers to call off their protest which has been going on from past 39 days, an assured that he would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and submit memorandum highlighting their ordeals.   Speaking to the journalists CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami also said, "I will take up with PM Narendra Modi the demands put forward by the farmers”.  He added saying that he “urged them to end this protest." "We want immediate loan waiver for farmers. Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government waived off farmer loans. We also want it." He added that the farmers would continue their month-old protest for loan waiver until Palaniswami ensured their meeting with Modi. The protesting farmers have also been demanding a Rs 40,000-crore drought relief package, farm loan waiver and setting up of the Cauvery Management Board by the Centre. What all have farmers done in 1 month: Over the last 39 days,farmers have resorted to various actions to catch the attention of the media and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  They have shaved their heads, halved their moustaches, held mice and snakes in their mouths, conducted mock funerals, flogged themselves and even carried skulls of other farmers who had committed suicide due to debt pressure. On April 10, they had stripped in front of the prime minister’s office here to press for their demands. The protesting farmers on Saturday drank their own urine in another desperate bid to draw the government’s attention to their plight.
