Chandigarh boy getting 1.44 crore offer from Google, turns out a lie

The parents of the sixteen year old boy who claimed getting an offer of 1.44 crore from Google, admitted that he hasn't got any such offer. "He made a mistake" they said.

New Delhi: The news of Chandigarh boy, Harshit Sharma, bagging an offer of 1.44 crore from Google, proved to be a big fat lie, when the company on Tuesday denied making any such offer to any such person. The parents of the boy accepted that it was a mistake from his side and told the Chandigarh administration that he has not got any such offer. According to the information provided by the principal of his school, Indra Beniwal, to HT, Harshit's mother called her up to inform that the boy had committed a mistake and that he is being kept under medical observation. She told that the boy was refusing to take food. The parents offered no further explanation about how the 'mistake' happened. The parents did not even tell the whereabouts of the boy. Harshit's two phone numbers are switched off. Harshit Sharma, the sixteen year old student of Government Model Senior Secondary School of Chandigarh, became the talk of the town, after an official press release of his achievement was published on July 29, by the UT's administration's public relations department. It was abuzz that Harshit had been selected as a trainee for Graphic Designing at Google. The press release claimed that the boy would be getting a stipend of 4 lakh per month for a training period of one year. he would be getting 12 lakh per month after the completion of his training. It was this official press release that shot the boy into the  limelight of media. The school authorities too did not verify the authenticity of the letter. He came to school with sweets a fortnight ago. Harshit has added the information on his Facebook account too. He has added Google , in the work section and California in the current city section of his profile. Harshit, originally from Kurukshtera, Haryana, lived at his uncle's place for schooling in Chandigarh. Before the truth was out, Harshit had told the Indian Express that it was a dream come true and had described himself as an ‘average student’.
