By-polls 2017: Congress's MC Mohan Kumari wins Karnataka's Gundlupet assembly seat with margin of 10,877 votes

New Delhi: The counting of votes for Delhi's Rajouri Garden by-poll, Rajasthan by-polls, Jharkhand by-polls, Karnataka by-polls, West Bengal by-polls and Himachal Pradesh by-poll started on Thursday. Here are latest updates:

The by-poll to the Rajouri Garden Assembly seat passed off peacefully with a low turnout of 47 per cent amidst snags in VVPAT machines at several booths, and in one EVM. Stakes are high for not only AAP but Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiromani Akali Dal combine too in the Rajouri Garden by-poll that was held on April 9. Nine candidates were in fray for the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency where more than 1,500 polling stations were set up for nearly 12.61 lakh voters. Internet services were shut down before the polling. All the polling stations were declared as either sensitive or hyper-sensitive keeping in mind threats perceptions. In Madhya Pradesh, polling for by-election of the Bandhavgarh Assembly seat in Umaria district and Ater segment of Bhind took place. In Himachal Pradesh, polling took place for Bhoranj seat. In West Bengal, voters used their right to elect their representative for Kanthi Dakshin Assembly seat. In Assam, polling held for Dhemaji constituency. In Rajasthan, polling held for Dholpur Assembly. Here voters exercised their franchise through VVPAT machines for the first time. In Karnataka, voters voted for their representatives for Nanjangud and Gundlupet Assembly segments. In Jharkhand, polling took place for Litiparah Assembly seat. By-elections to the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat and 10 assembly constituencies in eight states, including the national capital, held on April 9. (With inputs from agencies)
