Burning of school 'worst form of terrorism', will take action: Mehbooba Mufti

New Delhi: The Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Mehbooba Mufti spoke about burning of schools in BJP-PDP ruled state, on Monday.  "When everything started moving in J&K, some miscreants burnt our schools which impacted our education system", J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti said, reported ANI. She termed the burning of schools "worst form of terrorism". "In next 1 week government will definitely take some steps to punish those who burned our schools, this is worst form of terrorism," she added. She also talked about Pakistan and said-"You can change you friends, but you cant change your neighbours. We have to adopt the ideas of Atal Bihari Vajpayee to tackle Pak", Mufti said. On the topic of young children joining militancy she said, "We are trying to demotivate the children who recently joined militancy and will bring them back to their homes". It is pertinent to mention here that there has been continuous ceasefire by Pakistan leading to death of not only Indian jawans but also citizens. J&K UNREST The 2016 unrest in Kashmir started after the death of militant Burhan Wani. A series of violent protests in the Muslim-majority Kashmir Valley, snowballed after his death. Burhan Wani was a militant commander of the Kashmir-based Hizbul Mujahideen and was killed by Indian security forces on 8 July 2016. Anti-Indian protests started in all 10 districts of the Kashmir Valley, after his killing. Protesters defied curfew with attacks on security forces and public properties. On 15 July, curfew was imposed in all 10 districts of the valley. Mobile services were suspended by the government. Jammu and Kashmir Police and Indian Army used pellet guns, tear gas shells, rubber bullets and assault rifles to control the violent protesters which resulted in the deaths of more than 85 civilians. Over 13,000 civilians also reportedly got injured. Two security personnel also died while more than 4,000 personnel were injured in the riots.
