Bombay High Court refuses to stay tunnel work on Metro III line

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 14 (ANI): The Bombay High Court on Thursday refused to stay the tunneling work for the proposed Metro III line along the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz route.

The High Court refused to give stay on the Metro work but has said that it will seek a report from the structural experts if tunneling of the metro work affects the heritage structures.

Earlier a petition was filed by the trustees of JN Petit institute, which is housed in a 119 year old building at DN road of Mumbai, argued that the construction work of metro is affecting several heritage buildings.

On August 25, the petitioners told the court that a heavy limestone finial adorning a portion of the JN Petit building's ceiling had fallen down due to the constant vibrations from the ongoing tunneling work for the Metro.

While on Thursday, they told the court that while they were not opposed to the Metro work, it must be halted at least till a 'comprehensive survey of all buildings in Fort area is conducted by an independent structural engineer'.

The Colaba-Bandra-Seepz route is Mumbai's first underground Metro rail corridor. (ANI)
