BJP calls protest on D. Roopa's transfer, demands K'taka CM to take back decision

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 19 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka on Wednesday, called for a "protest" throughout the state on Deputy Inspector General (DIG) D. Roopa's transfer demanding Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaih to revoke his decision.

BJP Karnataka Chief B.S. Yeddyurappa told the media, "The BJP is protesting D. Roopa's transfer throughout the state. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should cancel her transfer."

"The manner in which Congress transferred DIG Roopa for exposing corruption reveals the testimony of the party's culture," he added.

Yeddyurappa asserted that law and order in Karnataka has completely collapsed.

"The Government should clear why she was transferred. The law and order in Karnataka has completely collapsed. The BJP is raising its voice on the behalf of all the honest officers of the state," he said.

Earlier on Monday, Siddaramaiah defended his action of transferring Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) D. Roopa, who exposed irregularities in the Parappana Agrahara Prison, stating that the action was taken "in view of the Government's commitment to public interest, truth and justice."

The Chief Minister pointed out that despite the immediate institution of inquiry into the irregularities; both Roopa and Director General of Police (Prisons) H.N. Sathyanarayana Rao went to the media to discuss the case.

On July 14, Roopa had also said, she is being unnecessarily targetted and singled out for exposing irregularities at the Parappana Agrahara Central prison. (ANI)
