Bihar Dy CM requests PM Modi to visit flood-hit areas

New Delhi [India], Aug 22 (ANI): As Bihar is reeling under flood, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit flood-affected areas.

The Deputy Chief Minister said around 26 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are deployed to control the flood situation and over 2.5 lakh people have been rescued so far.

"At least 26 NDRF teams are working to control the situation. Over 2.5 lakh people have been rescued so far. I have thanked the Prime Minister for his assistance and also requested him to visit flood-affected areas," he told ANI.

He further appealed to the chief ministers of BJP ruled states to contribute and help in controlling the situation in the state.

Earlier on August 14, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took stock of flood affected areas in the state and assured that the relief and food camps were being conducted in the flood affected areas.

He had also sent chief secretary of disaster management, road construction department, rural Works department and all DMs (District Magistrates) to assess situation in the flood affected areas.

Earlier, the Prime Minister also spoke to Nitish over phone regarding the flood situation in Bihar.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) took to Twitter saying that, "PM @narendramodi has spoken to Bihar CM @NitishKumar regarding the flood situation in parts of the state.

Prime Minister Modi also expressed his grief for the affected people and assured that the situation is being monitored. "My thoughts are with all those affected by floods in parts of Bihar. The situation is being monitored closely".

The flood situation has worsened in Bihar with death toll crossing the 300 mark.

Overflowing rivers from Nepal have played a major spoilsport in four northeastern districts - Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia and Katihar. Supaul, Saharsa, Bagha, Gopalganj, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Khagaria, Darbhanga and Madhepura are the other districts which have been affected by floods. (ANI)
