ABP News Investigation: Slums tripled in Shakur Basti where railways demolished 500 shanties

New Delhi: ABP News on Thursday revealed that number of slums tripled in Shakur Basti area in West Delhi where a demolition drive was carried out by railways couple of weeks ago, triggering an angry reaction from CM Arvind Kejriwal.

At least 500 slums were demolished but latest investigation by your channel revealed that 1500 new shanties were built in Shakur Basti.

The demolition drive, which was carried out  by the railway for expanding infrastructure, has evoked angry protests from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who wanted murder case to be registered.

As many as 1200 slum units were removed in the drive with the railways saying it was carried out after three notices, the first one with the March 14, 2015 deadline.

A six-month-old baby died in one of the slum units, which the railways insisted occurred two hours before the demolition started.
