'AAP responsible for its downfall, not BJP'

New Delhi [India], Jan. 21 (ANI): Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Saturday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was responsible for its own downfall.

"AAP is responsible for its own downfall. People trusted him (Arvind Kejriwal) and made him the chief minister, now his party lies scattered. Now, they are misleading people, spreading lies and being opportunists," Vijender Gupta, Opposition leader in the Delhi Assembly, said, hitting back at the AAP for accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government of "orchestrating" the row.

Two days ago, Election Commission (EC) recommended to President Ram Nath Kovind that 20 AAP MLAs should be disqualified from the Delhi Assembly, for allegedly holding the office of profit.

"You have made 21 posts of profit and during that, you brought the bill to increase the salary by 400 % so that the MLAs do not leave the party. You made parliamentary secretaries like Deputy Ministers," Gupta further said.

If the president gives his assent, the disqualification of the legislators would pave the way for bye-elections in Delhi. (ANI)
