New Delhi: in the wake of forthcoming Presidential and vice Presidential elections, Opposition on Tuesday declared the name of Gopal Krishan Gandhi as its Vice Presidential candidate. Who is Gopal Krishna Gandhi?  
  • Gopalkrishna Devdas Gandhi was born on April 22, 1946
  • He is the grandson of Mahatama Gandhi
  • Gandhi is a retired IAS officer and diplomat and served as 22nd Governor of West Bengal between 2004 and 2009
  • As a former IAS officer, Gandhi served as Secretary to the President of India and as High Commissioner to South Africa and Sri Lanka, among other administrative and diplomatic posts
  • Gandhi teaches at Ashoka University, where he is a Professor of History and Politics
The Opposition has picked Dalit leader and former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar its Presidential candidate against NDA candidate Ramnath Kovind. The presidential elections are set to take place on July 17 and the counting of the votes would take place on July 20.
