Woman burnt to death for dowry by in-laws in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: A 25-year-old married woman was allegedly burnt to death by her in-laws in Neelmani Colony of Arthala under Sahibabad Police Station, police said Tuesday.

 



 

According to the woman's father, the incident took place on October 21 when Pooja Sharma was preparing for 'Dhanteras' during which her husband Chaman and his family members allegedly doused her with kerosene and set her afire, they said.

 

The accused locked the doors of the house from outside and fled from the spot, police said.

 

The neighbours heard the woman's screams and noticed smoke emanating from the house, upon which they immediately reached the spot and rushed the victim to GTB Hospital in Delhi, where she succumbed to her injuries today, they said.

 

The woman is survived by her 9-month-old daughter.Satyendra Sharma, the deceased's father, told police that his daughter got married to Chaman Kaushik on April 29, 2012 and from the very first day, her in-laws harassed her for dowry.

 

An FIR under Section 304 B of IPC (dowry death) has been registered against the deceased's husband and in-laws, Station House Officer of Sahibabad Police Station Upendra Yadav said.Two arrests have been made in this connection, he said.
