Muzaffarnagar: A dozen armed men looted a loaded sugar truck after shooting at the driver and thrashing the conductor on Meerut-Karnal highway, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday on the highway near Lisadh village in Shamli district, when 200 bags of sugar were being transported in a truck from Kinoni sugar mill to Kaithal, Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar told reporters.

A dozen armed men in a car intercepted the truck and forced the driver and the conductor to alight from it. When the victims opposed them, the driver was shot at and conductor was beaten up. The miscreants then escaped from the spot with the loaded truck, police said.

No arrest has been made so far and the injured have been admitted in the hospital, they said.

A case has been registered and search operations are on to nab the miscreants.
