Toyota makes ABS and EBD standard on all its vehicles
New Delhi: After making dual airbags standard across its whole range in 2014, Toyota has now made ABS and EBD standard on all its models. The good news is that even the Etios and Etios Liva, now relegated to the fleets, will also continue to get standard ABS and EBD.
While many of the major carmakers in India, who are also market leaders, haven’t yet offered the basic safety features as standard, Toyota appreciably has made them standard on all their vehicles.
Also the prospect of having more comfort and luxury features feel more alluring to buy a car. Hence carmakers sacrificed on the safety features to add more of luxury and infotainment equipment in place of safety equipment.
Toyota’s adding standard safety features is also a smart move, as it has earned a good reputation, while it also made other carmakers look greedy and uncaring. Toyota has also earned a positive image once again with standard ABS and dual airbags, which the Transport and Highways Ministry will make mandatory by 2018.
Not stopping at EBS, ABD and dual airbags, Toyota has also been equipping its cars with 3-point ELR seatbelts for all seats with pre-tensioners and force limiters on the front belts. Besides, Toyota will equip the cars wit ISOFIX child seat mounts on all models.
It has only been the Toyota that has been scoring high on the NCAP’s crash tests with Latin NCAP crash test in 2013 and the Global NCAP crash test in 2016. On bot occasions, the Toyota scored four stars for adult occupants and two star for child occupants. Many other brands scored relatively lesser than the Toyota, with below average to poor ratings.
The only downside of this standardization of safety features will be the price, as newer models will be priced 2-3 percent higher than the current models. However, that’s not any cost compared to the safety these standard safety features will offer.
