Tata Hexa – Is It Priced Right?

Tata Hexa – Is It Priced Right?

The all-new Tata Hexa was recently launched in India with a lot of fanfare at an event in Powai, Maharashtra. The Tata SUV is loaded to the gills with features and comes with only a single 2.2-litre Varicor diesel engine which generates power in two tunes – 156PS and 150PS. With Tata wanting to – and managing to – create a buzz, most of the details were already made available to the public. The real question is, has Tata managed to price it right? Let’s find out.

Considering the performance of Tata’s previous product - priced above the Safari Storme - the Aria, this launch was all the more significant. The Aria failed to impress buyers despite receiving praise from auto experts. Reason? The SUV was ahead of its time, had uninspiring looks and was priced too steep. Overcoming the disappointment of the Aria’s failure to take off, Tata has returned with the Hexa, carrying forward almost all the good bits of the Aria and adding many more, and providing improved styling for good measure. In fact, the car isn’t just a rebadged Aria. Despite sharing the chassis with the Aria, it has been designed ground-up, and is being offered in six variants. Here are the prices.

Tata Hexa Variants Price

Hexa Variant Prices (ex-showroom Delhi)
XE 4x2 MT Rs 10.96 lakh
XM 4x2 MT Rs 12.81 lakh
XMA 4x2 AT Rs 13.91 lakh
XT 4x2 MT Rs 15.04 lakh
XTA 4x2 AT Rs 16.13 lakh
XT 4x4 MT Rs 16.24 lakh

Since the Hexa is a feature-rich car, even the base XE variant gets quite a good number of goodies. It gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, smoked projector headlamps with follow-me-home headlamps, power windows, AC vents on the second and third row, eight-way adjustable driver seat, power adjustable ORVMs, ConnectNext infotainment system with six speakers, and steering-mounted controls for audio, phone and cruise.

Tata Hexa – Is It Priced Right?

This variant gets the 150PS/320Nm Varicor motor which is linked to a five-speed manual transmission – the only five-speed manual trim in Hexa’s line-up. However, the absence of a 4x4 option in the base is the only soaring point about the XE trim. Given the amount of features on offer, the base variant of the Hexa could not have been priced better.

As is obvious, as we move up the variants, features keep increasing and so does the price. However, the best thing about the Hexa is that every variant offers something worth having and, importantly, the price of the variant doesn’t go unreasonably high.

Speaking of the top-end XT 4x4 MT version, it’s a must-have for people wanting to experience the thrill of off-roading as it gets the only 4x4 setup across the Hexa lineup. You get the powerful 156PS/400Nm engine, ESP with roll-over mitigation, five-inch ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system by Harmon with 10-speaker JBL system, 19-inch alloy wheels, Fully Automatic Temperature Control (FATC) with Dual HVAC, and several other features for convenience.

So, is the Hexa priced right? Yes, of course. We believe the sheer amount of features completely justifies the price of the Hexa.
