Nissan to launch 8 new models by 2021, says report
NEW DELHI : Nissan has been on a roll with its Datsun brand, while its alliance partner Renault has started doing well in the SUV, Crossover space with the Duster and the Kwid. Meanwhile, Nissan Motor Co Limited has been planning new model launches to boost its sales in India and many other international markets.
Nissan has planned for an eight new model launch in India by 2021. The eight model launch plan will include both the Nissan and the Datsun brands, developed both in India and abroad.
Previously, Nissan sold most of its models in partnership with Renault. Now, it will launch cars add to the portfolio of both Nissan and Datsun brands. Nissan looks optimistic, after the encouraging performance of all three of its brands.
Nissan also identifies that more of common platforms, modules and technologies work better than cross-badging, as it did in the past. Usage of common platforms and modules ensures that the models avail a lot of cost advantages to keep the price low, increase profitability and minimize risks.
The Renault-Nissan-Datsun brands have done so in the past. They have launched products using common platforms and technologies that have done well in the market. The latest being the Datsun redi-GO and Renault Kwid sharing platforms and 50 percent of common parts, both the models have done really well.
Nissan also wants to “develop more redi-GO and Kwid stories,” as Christian Mardrus, Chairman Nissan (Africa, Middle-East and India), stated, in an interview to Reuters in New Delhi.
Nissan India also hints at its plans of launching more of SUVs and Crossovers of sedans and SUVs in India. The Japanese carmaker’s focus on India is to develop a strong domestic market in India and export market from India catering to emerging markets.
This is going to be tough for Nissan amidst competition from Toyota and Hyundai, who are planning to bring in subsidiaries into India for the same purposes. Nissan will also be looking forward to export both Nissan and Datsun brand models to Africa and the Middle-East. The company also expects to come up with better execution, as a matter of challenge to its competitors.
