2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far

New Delhi: The second generation XF has taken a quantum leap in almost every aspect – engines, platform, and features – compared to the first generation model, while preserving the essence of the XF’s styling. Tata Motors-owned Jaguar will launch the second generation XF in India this month. The vehicle was revealed in London last year and subsequently made its motor show world debut at the 2015 New York Motor Show, just over a year ago. Like its predecessor, the 2016 XF will compete with saloons such as the Mercedes-Benz E Class, the BMW 5 Seriesand the Audi A6. Here’s what the new XF has to offer in India.

Design and Platform

2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far Jaguar has not altered the design of the XF much. The second generation model unmistakably reminds you of the original XF, which was introduced in the year 2007. Elements such as the long bonnet, sleek coupé-like roofline and short front overhangs are still present, however, with subtle changes. 2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far The 2016 XF’s headlights feature adaptive full-LED technology, the first vehicle from Jaguar to do so. The signature ‘J-Blade’ daytime running lights are present on the new XF as well. At the rear, the LED tail lights feature the signature Jaguar graphic from the F-TYPE – a line intersecting a roundel – also used on the XE. 2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far The XF is based on Jaguar’s new aluminium-intensive architecture, just like the XE. The British luxury marque highlighted that the all-new XF is up to 190kg lighter than its predecessor as Jaguar has gone from an all-steel to aluminium-intensive monocoque chassis. The new platform also delivers near-50:50 weight distribution. 2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far 2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far Talking about its dimensions, the new XF is 7mm shorter than the previous gen car, at 4,954mm. There has been a considerable increment of 51mm in its wheelbase, which now stands at 2,960mm. This increase in wheelbase liberates 15mm more rear legroom, 24mm more rear knee room and up to 27mm rear headroom. 2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far On the inside, the layered dashboard of the new XF features Jaguar’s signature ‘Riva Hoop’ – the top layer continues into the doors. Just like the latest Jaguars, the central console features a horizontally placed touchscreen infotainment system. It features a brand new steering wheel, which is similar to that of the XE, and the instrument cluster is an all-digital 12.3-inch unit. 2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far

Engines

The new XF in India will feature all-aluminium Ingenium petrol and diesel engines, both having 2.0-litre displacement. These engines debuted with the automaker’s entry-level offering, the XE, globally, which is also on sale in India. 2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far The 2.0-litre (1,999cc) four-cylinder diesel mill in the new XF generates 180PS @ 4,000rpm and produces a max torque of 430Nm in between 1,750-2,500rpm. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. The sprint to 100kmph comes in 8.1 seconds and it has a top speed of 229kmph. The diesel-powered XF returns a certified fuel efficiency of 19.33kmpl. The 2.0-litre (1,999cc) GTDi Ingenium petrol produces a healthy 240PS @ 5,500rpm and a max torque of 340Nm in between 1,750-4,000 rpm. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission here too. The petrol motor makes the XF hit 100kmph a second before the diesel, at 7 seconds, and it has a top-speed of 248kmph. It has a certified fuel efficiency of 13.12kmpl. The entry-level Pure variant is only available with the diesel, while the other two offer a choice of both the petrol and the diesel mills. The XF comes with JaguarDrive Control, featuring Standard, Eco, Dynamic and Rain Ice Snow driving modes. 2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far

Features

2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far In terms of Infotainment, the 2016 XF will feature Jaguar’s InControl touchscreen infotainment system, just like the upcoming F-Pace. There will be two versions on offer – a standard 8-inch (InControl Touch) and an optional 10.2-inch (InControl Touch Pro). Speaking of the speakers, the new XF comes standard with Jaguar Sound System, featuring 8 speakers. The optional InControl Touch Pro offers two Meridian sound systems: the 380 W Digital Sound System or the 825 W Meridian Surround Sound System. The latter comes with 17 speakers. 2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far The second generation XF will sit above the new entry-level XE and, as always, below the XJ. The 2016 XF is better in almost every aspect compared to the previous version, whether it comes to the fuel-efficient and powerful engines, aluminium platform, or features. Speaking of its prices, to make room for the new XE, Jaguar is expected to price it slightly more than the first generation sedan. 2016 Jaguar XF: What We Know So Far Source: cardekho.com
